US Housing Starts vs Rail Carloads of Lumber April 2012

It’s usually easier to build houses in the spring than in the winter, so it’s no surprise that non-seasonally adjusted housing starts were higher in March 2012 (54,500 — see the chart at right) than in February 2012 (47,900), even though seasonally adjusted housing starts in March were lower. Rail carloads of lumber and wood products tend to rise and fall with housing starts (see chart at right). Rail Time Indicators May 2012
